Podcast Episode 140 - Four steps to keep you accomplishing the goals that move you toward your dreams

Have you ever made goals and never finished them? Me too!

Do you do good at some goals and maybe not others? Yea, me too!

Or have you written your goals down and promptly forgotten them? Oh, wait, me too!

I’m excited because today, I’m giving you four steps to accomplish your goals that will help you move toward your dreams!

So today is for you if:

  • If you need help finishing your goals.

  • If you struggle to feel motivated to work on your goals.

  • If you’re ready to become someone who is a finisher instead of just a starter.

I’ve never been the type to just crush my goals. I always either lost steam or made goals and immediately forgot about them.

We can write goals all day long, but if we never do them, we’ll never accomplish what God’s called us to do and be.

Every day we have a chance to strip off all the junk holding us back so we can see our dreams come true.

But if we never keep going, we won’t live our life of significance.

These four steps will keep moving and doing your goals and micro goals.

These first two are external steps:

1. Write it down in a planner

“You can’t manage what you don’t measure.”

– Erik Lawson, Senior Pastor of Element Church

1) Track your goals somewhere
It can be digital or physical.

It can be a legal pad or a note on your phone. It doesn’t have to be fancy.

Here are a few fancier planner ideas:

2) Review goals weekly

You can see what you planned to do versus what you actually did and then make any needed adjustments.

3) Do the goals

2. Set up accountability

Accountability is the biggest key to achieving my goals and reaching for my dreams!

So who do you need help from to keep moving forward with your goals?

You can set up accountability with the following:

  • Friend

  • Co-worker

  • Colleague

  • Coach

You don’t want a friend that’s stagnant and just happy to bob-along life’s path.
You need someone that “gets it,” and you’re heading in a similar direction.

If you don’t have anyone like that, pray and ask God for someone.

I was in that same boat and prayed for people that I could do life with.

The next day, I got a call from a friend who introduced me to Lethia Owens, the founder of Women of Audacious Faith. It was there where I met my soon-to-be accountability partners Jackie, Becky and Kat. And now, I co-host the podcast, Your Fearless Journey with Becky and Kat, which grew out of our accountability calls.

These next two steps are internal steps that will help.

3. Shift your mindset to “do it anyway”

You don’t have to feel like doing your goals to do them.

”Motivation is Garbage.” – Mel Robbins

Nike still says it best, “Just do it.”

One thing that really helps me do my goals even if I don’t feel like it is timers.

Anyone can do something you don’t want to do for 15 minutes.

So, I’ll set a timer for 15 or 30 minutes.

I especially love to work in 50-minute sprints. I work for 50 minutes and then take a 10-minute break. Then another 50 minutes and a 10-minute break.

4. Shift Your Identity

So many times when we do something difficult or scary, we think:

  • I don’t know if I can do this.

  • I’m not good enough.

  • I don’t know enough.

  • Who am I to do this?

  • Capable enough, smart enough, have enough energy…

  • Blah-be-de-blah-blah-blah

Speak over yourself, “I’m the kind of person who….”

  • I’m the kind of person who figures it out.

  • I’m the kind of person who finishes what I start.

  • I’m the kind of person who exercises every day.

  • I’m the kind of person who writes my book.

  • I’m the kind of person who – records a podcast… writes a blog…makes the sales calls…etc.

I’m the kind of person who…(fill in the blank).

Use this statement(s) to shift your identity.

And, it’s not fake it til’ you make it either.

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

If God has called you to this dream (and He has), you’re really speaking what God says about you.

You’re aligning your identity with who God already says you are.

As my friends Becky and Kat say, it’s really “Faith-it til’ you make it.”

You believe God that you are this person because He’s called you to a life of significance, so you are that person.

Next week, we’ll focus on overcoming the fears that will try and keep you from the goals that will keep you from your dreams.

And I’ll be sharing a special opportunity that you can apply for if it’s the right fit for you.

You’ve got this, and Father’s got you!

Thanks a Bunch for listening!
