The Busy Woman's Stress-Free Guide To Getting It All Done - Step Four - Staying Motivated

We’ve been talking about our life priorities and goals the last few posts. If you missed it I’ve included the links below the resources section.

Now that you’ve set your priorities, you’ve got some goals in place that will help you accomplish your priorities, and you’re learning to be consistent, what’s next? Well, it’s the messy middle of course.

Have you ever been trucking along in your goal, super motivated and then it feels like you hit a brick wall (aka your motivation went out the window)?

You might be thinking to yourself, “how am I ever going to get this goal accomplished?”

Or, maybe fear hits you. “What was I thinking? I can’t do this. I’m not good enough.”

How do you keep going when you don’t believe you can do it?

Here’s three keys that will get you through this messy middle and on to the other side headed to success:

1. Mindset

Mindset is believing you can do what you’ve set your mind to.

It’s about replacing the negative thoughts that are holding you back with positive thoughts that will move you closer to your priorities and goals.

“You can’t walk in victory while wallowing in thoughts of defeat and rejection.” Lysa TerKeurst

Sometimes you may have to borrow someones belief for awhile. Do you have a spouse, friend, co-worker or mentor that believes in you? Borrow some of their belief in you until you believe you can do it yourself.

Mindset is setting your mind and keeping it set on thoughts that you can accomplish what God has called you to do.

Philippians 4:13 NKJV
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Mindset is eliminating the negative and focusing on the positive because you will attract what you focus on.

If you focus on how “hard it is” and “I can’t do it,” you will attract hardship and you really won’t be able to do it.

But, if you focus on how “you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you,” “He’s for you and not against you,” and “I have favor with God and man,” etc., you will attract Christ’s strength and favor.

When you focus on the positive, you will begin to believe you can do it. Even if you don’t feel like you can, your positive focus will help you push past the fear and move forward.

If you’re moving forward, you’re “doing it.”

“If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Henry Ford

2. 5-Second Rule

You may have heard me talk about this before, but it’s so powerful, I’m going to repeat it. (And, you will hear me say it again no question.)

The 5-Second rule is a tool that gets you moving. It’s a trigger that creates action.

Sometimes continued action is all we need to keep going and not give up.

Here’s how it works. You’re going to count backwards: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Go! Now just do it! (Hmm…that’s a good slogan.)

Ever stand on the edge of a pool and you desperately want to jump in, but you know it’s down right frigid? What did you do? I would usually count down 3, 2, 1 Jump! And, then take the plunge. Why, because I needed that count-down kick to stop making excuses and get me moving.

And, no it doesn’t work the same way if you count up. Because you can just keep counting.

I use this tool each morning when I get up. I get up at 5am so I can accomplish a few of my goals before work. I’ve never been a morning person so this was the hardest thing for me. But, when that alarm clock goes off, I count down–5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Get up! And I get up. No excuses.

The 5-Second rule changed everything for me and my mornings. And, because of that, I’m accomplishing many of my goals even before breakfast!

3. Remember Your WHY

When you’re stuck in the messy middle and want to give up on your goal, you need to remember your WHY.

Why does this goal matter? Why is it important you accomplish it?

If you’re not sure WHY you want to accomplish your goals, then you need to go back discover your WHY. Then, write it down so you can remember it during those difficult times.

“If your WHY is strong enough, the how becomes easy.” Jim Rohn

When we discover our WHY, we are better able to find the clarity and confidence we need to keep going.

“A clear sense of purpose enables you to focus your efforts on what matters most, compelling you to take risks and push forward regardless of the odds or obstacles.” Forbes article

It’s like the difference between defused light and laser light. When the light is focused it’s powerful.

When you know your WHY, implement the 5-Second rule when you need to create action and keep the right mindset, believing you can do it, you’ll pushing through the messy middle to the other side of success!

Next post, we’re going to give some tips that will help focus our time on the right goals so we can accomplish what matters most.
