Will God Come Through When I Need Him Most?

Have you ever worried that God will come through on His promise? What if He doesn’t this time? After all, this one’s “the big one!”

"Experience with God gives us experience with His faithfulness."

The more we experience God’s goodness, the more we can look back on what He’s done for us in the past. This give us confidence He will be faithful with what we’re experiencing now.

I was just thanking God this morning and reminding myself of this very thing. He has been faithful to provide in the past and He will be faithful to provide now. Each and every time, He has come through–maybe not in my timing, or in the way I thought–but never too late.

I think sometimes I get spiritual amnesia and forget what God has done for me and my family in the past. It's so easy to get caught up in worrying over what's right in front of my face and forget my Heavenly Father is with me in this moment. He hasn't forgotten me, He's always there and He has only good things planned for me.

Psalm 37:3-5 NKJV

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Trust here in the Hebrew is to trust, be confident or sure:—be bold (confident, secure, sure), put confidence.

We’re to put our confidence in our Heavenly Father and feed on His faithfulness. He will bring it to pass!

Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Our God doesn’t change. If He was faithful in the past, He’ll be faithful today. If He’s faithful today, He’ll be faithful in our future. We can count on that.

So how can we avoid spiritual amnesia?

Thankfulness Journal

Start a journal where you can make notes of anytime God’s been faithful in your life. Write it down whether it’s big or small.

When you hit a rough patch in your life. Sit down and read over your journal. This will remind you of what God has done in the past, both for you and for other.

Read Stories Of God’s Faithfulness To Others

Find stories of others who have gone through tough times and how God came through.

This will encourage you that you’re not alone.

There are so many examples in the Bible of people who have been through tough times and you can see the faithfulness of God at work.

Some of my favorites:

Joseph:

Thrown in a pit and then sold into slavery by his brothers, lies about and thrown into jail, helped another in jail and then forgotten about and then made second in command of all Egypt saving millions of lives in the process.

Daniel:

Taken captive and exiled to another country as a teenager, interpreted dream of king and saved many lives, worked faithfully through multiple kings reigns and then betrayed by jealous co-workers so that he was thrown into a pit of lions, rescued by God and God reveled himself as the true god to the king.

Esther:

Made queen of Persia even though she was an exiled Jew, who bravely went before the king on behalf of her people, even when it could have meant death, and saved an entire population around the world.

Paul:

Persecuted followers of Christ, even to death, then Jesus confronted Paul and he became one of the greater followers of Christ writing two-thirds of the New Testament scriptures. Philippians was written while he was in jail, yet it’s full of more scriptures on joy than any other Paul wrote.

There are many more stories of God’s faithfulness to others throughout history, and even today. Look for them, read about them, be encouraged. You’re not alone.

Remember God is no respecter of persons. He doesn’t play favorites.

He doesn’t put us in categories and say, “I’ll help this gal because she’s so good, but I’m not helping that one because she’s screwed up just one too many times.”

When you’re not sure if God’s going to pull through this time, remember what He’s done in the past and know He will do it again.
