How do you see yourself? Do you look in the mirror and see all your imperfections or do you see the beautiful woman of God that you are? Do you feel loved and cherished by their Heavenly Father? Or, do you feel like someone who is broken–unfit for His use?

Last post we talked about our self-image. Our self-image is defined as the idea, conception, or mental image one has of oneself.

We learned that changing our self-image first means we need to find out what our Creator says about us. If you missed it, you can read it here.

Friends, we’ve believed a lie that’s created a false image of ourselves for far too long–now it’s time to change that false image to the truth.

Lie: You’re broken
Truth: You’re His Masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10 AMP
For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

Our Heavenly Father created each of us as unique individuals. We’re an exclusive original from our personalities, to our looks, to our talents (and yes you have talents), to our calling and even down to our finger prints. But, if we don’t believe that, we’ll never walk in the fullness of who God designed us to be.

Have you ever had one of your friends, or maybe even your child, get down on themselves in front of you? You heard them rake themselves over the coals for making a mistake; maybe they lamented about how ugly or unwanted they are.

How did that make you feel? Did your heart ache for them? Did you try and convince them to see the truth because you knew those were just lies they were believing?

Let’s turn the script and examine our own selves.

Have you ever gotten down on yourselves for the same thing? You made a mistake and you treated yourself as if the world was going to end (I’ve done that one!). You were trying on clothes in the morning and were so angry at yourself because nothing fit (I’ve done that one too!).

How about my favorite insult, "I'm a horrible mom." This is probably the one I used most to abuse myself.

Have you ever though how our Heavenly Father feels when we, His children, treat ourselves like that? He feels like you did when you saw your friend or child treat them selves poorly.

His heart aches and longs for us to believe the truth that we’re His Masterpiece–cherished by Him.

If you’re sitting there thinking, “You have no idea how much I’ve done wrong. I may have been a Masterpiece once, but I couldn’t ever be one again.” Think again friend! You’re a new creature, recreated in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our worth isn’t in what we’ve done, but in what He’s done for us. You can check out this post, “How do you know what you’re worth.”

How do you change the false belief that we’re broken and believe we’re truly a Masterpiece?

Reprogram Our Thoughts

We need to go in and reprogram our thoughts. We’ve been thinking we’re broken for so long, it’s been hardwired into our brains. But the good news is, God made it possible for us to rewire our brains so we can believe the truth.

John 8:32 NKJV
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Once we’ve reprogrammed our brain to believe the truth, that truth will set us free!

How do we reprogram our thoughts?

Renew Your Mind

Romans 12:2 NKJV
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Renew in this scripture means: a renewal, renovation, complete change for the better.

How many of you like Fixer Upper (or another home show that fixes up old houses)? Don’t you love how they go in and take that old and decrepit house and change it into something astonishing? That’s what we’re doing when we renew our minds to God’s truth. We’re renovating our thinking.

When the old, negative thoughts (lies) come replace them with the truth of God’s Word.

You can’t actually hold a negative thought and a positive thought at the same time. So, each time the negative thoughts about yourself come (the lies)–replace them with what God says about you (the truth).

Remember those scriptures we worked on in our last post? Bring those out and read them again every time those negative thoughts come into your mind.

As you replace the lies with what God says about you, you’re reprogramming your mind (renewing). You’re renovating it!

Change doesn’t happen over night, but as you consistently change your thoughts from negative to positive, from the lies to the what God says about you, you’re slowing renovating (renewing) your mind to the truth.

And, now that you know the truth–you’re set free from the lies that have held you back.

You’re freed from the lies that you’re not good enough! You’re set free to believe your a beautiful Masterpiece, cherished and loved by your Heavenly Father ready for good things that He’s designed for you to walk in!

Next time we’re going to talk about the biggest thing that can derail your renovation progress.
