Do you walk into a room and feel like the wind got knocked out of you by all the clutter?
Are there friends in your life that leave you feeling defeated?
Do you ever feel overwhelmed but aren’t quite sure why?
We’re talking about what drains you.
Today is for you if…
If you’re tired of feeling tired…emotional energy drained.
If you desire to work at your optimal.
If you’re ready to enjoy your home, work, life, and family more.
Monday, my youngest daughter was crying…she couldn’t find her Pokemon cards.
I walked into the room and couldn’t stand it anymore…pulled out a construction trash bag and started going to town. I threw away two construction bags worth of stuff.
That room was an emotional drain every time I walked into it. I finally hit my breaking point and did something about it. I felt so much better when I finished it.
Sometimes you just have to pull the weeds.
Weeds are those things in your life that are sucking the life out of you. They drain our energy.
It’s the room you walk in, and your heart sinks.
It’s the mail sitting on your desk you’re afraid to open.
It’s the closet full of clothes that don’t fit that you’re avoiding.
It’s the calendar that’s too full.
It’s the office desk that you can’t see.
It’s the bill collectors you’re afraid to contact.
It’s the five, ten, or twenty pounds you’ve meant to do something about someday.
It’s the degree or certification you’ve been meaning to sign up for.
It’s the draining friendship that you’ve been afraid to let go of.
Mark 4:3-9 NASB
3 “Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 “Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. 6 “And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 “Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 “Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” 9 And He was saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
For the past three weeks, I pulled some enormous weeds. These suckers have been draining me dry for months.
My Office – piles of papers and books.
Girls’ bedroom – disaster tackled.
My computer desktop – it had hundreds of screenshots and downloaded items.
I felt so much better after pulling each of the weeds in my life, and I have more emotional energy and capacity to enjoy life and work on what I’m called to do.
How about you? What weeds do you need to pull to remove the soul-sucking drainers?
Homework:
1 List three areas where you need to pull the weeds.
2 Plan to tackle one this week.
3 Do it in the way you need to…10 minutes a day or blitz method.
