When a Win Isn’t the Summit (and a Flop Isn’t the Finish)
Last night I celebrated with salted caramel ice cream (Ghirardelli, of course) because a win finally landed. 🎉 And this time, I let myself enjoy it without guilt. No overthinking. No “now what” sneaking in. Just caramel, ice cream, and gratitude. 😋
But I’ll be honest. I haven’t always been that way. I still remember signing my highest-paying client at the time and thinking, “Is this it? Shouldn’t this feel different? Better? Last longer?”
That win didn’t satisfy the way I thought it would.
And let’s not forget the flops. Like my first Courageous Club launch—total crickets. 🦗 Ouch. However, Father used that “fail” to prep me for the monthly coaching version that’s growing today.
Here’s the truth Father taught me: wins and failures are both training ground. They are stepping stones toward becoming the kind of woman who carries what Father is giving you.
📖 From Glory to Glory
The way Paul describes growth in 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NASB) has always stopped me in my tracks:
“But we all, with unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
Did you catch that? Being transformed. Not one-and-done. Not “I hit the milestone, so I’m finished.” No, it’s an ongoing journey—glory to greater glory. Each step, each win, and yes, even each failure, is shaping us into Christ’s image.
Romans 8:29 NASB says it this way:
“For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…”
That word conformed is all about shaping. Wins feel good, but they’re not the end goal. Failures sting, but they’re not wasted. Both are chisels in the hand of Father, carving us into the likeness of Jesus.
👉 And that’s where the three truths come in. If we can shift how we see our wins and our flops, they stop being roadblocks and start becoming fuel for growth. Let’s break them down.s 3:18, NASB)
🧭 Three Shifts That Change Everything
1. Celebrate, but don’t camp.
Wins are worth enjoying—don’t minimize them. Post the happy dance GIF, eat the cake, tell your people. 🎉 But don’t pitch your tent there.
Think of Everest climbers. Reaching base camp at 17,000 feet is a huge accomplishment. They snap selfies, cheer, even eat their freeze-dried macaroni and cheese. But if they stayed there, they’d never reach the summit.
Base camp is fuel for the next climb, not the finish line.
David’s lion and bear were the same way. Those victories were incredible—but they weren’t the summit. They prepared him for Goliath. If he’d camped out on his “bear-slayer” badge, he’d never have faced the giant.
When Saul questioned his ability, David answered with confidence rooted in God’s past faithfulness:
1 Samuel 17:36–37, NASB
“Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will save me from the hand of this Philistine.”
Celebrate your wins, but don’t camp out at base camp. They’re meant to prepare you for what’s next.
2. Make fertilizer out of flops.
A flop isn’t a verdict; it’s just feedback.
Romans 8:28 doesn’t say all things are good—it says Father works all things together for good.
Everest climbers sometimes get altitude sickness, fatigue, or even have failed attempts. But those setbacks train their bodies and minds to endure higher altitudes. Failure becomes preparation.
David had those too. His sin with Bathsheba was devastating. Yet when he repented, Father redeemed even that broken story and we got Solomon, the wisest man in the world.
Scripture gives us the raw account:
2 Samuel 11:27, NASB
“But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the Lord.”
And yet later, after his repentance, God still used that line:
2 Samuel 12:24, NASB
“Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her; and she gave birth to a son, and he named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved him.”
Out of David’s failure came Solomon, the wisest king who would build the temple. Father wastes nothing.
So whether your flop is a launch with zero signups or a missed opportunity you regret, don’t label it wasted. Ask, “What’s the lesson here?” That’s the fertilizer for your next season of growth.
3. Aim for Christ-likeness, not just bigger numbers.
At the highest camps on Everest, every ounce matters. Climbers learn resilience, patience, and perseverance because reaching the summit is less about physical strength and more about who they’re becoming in the process.
David killing Goliath wasn’t about his slingshot skills—it was about the kind of man Father was shaping him into: a king who could carry the weight of leading God’s people.
And that’s our journey too. Paul writes:
Romans 8:29, NASB
“For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
Your true summit isn’t hitting a certain income, follower count, or client number. Those are milestones worth celebrating, but the greater glory is in becoming more like Christ along the way. That’s the reflection the world is desperate to see.
✍️ Courageous Action (Journal This)
Celebrate a Win
Think back on a recent victory—big or small. Maybe it was signing a client, posting consistently for a week, or even showing up to that call you were nervous about.
Write it down and thank Father for it.
Then ask, “What next step is this preparing me for?” Because, remember, every win is a stepping stone, not the summit.
Reframe a Failure
Pick one thing that didn’t go the way you hoped. Maybe a post flopped, a launch fizzled, or you didn’t follow through on a commitment to yourself.
Instead of labeling it wasted, look for the lesson. Ask, “What can this teach me?”
Write down at least one tweak or adjustment you can make moving forward. This is how you turn fertilizer into growth.
Check the Reflection
Take a quiet moment and ask, “Where do I see myself becoming more like Christ in this season?”
Write it down and celebrate it.
Then go one step further: “Where do I want to grow next so I can reflect Him even more?”
Choose one area—patience, courage, consistency, compassion—and jot down a small, practical step you can take this week to grow in it.
You don’t need perfect outcomes to grow; you just need faithful steps with Father.
It’s time to go from glory to greater glory, one season at a time.
