#9 Sure-Fire Way to Stay Stuck – Reject Feedback

Rejecting feedback can keep you stuck because it prevents you from identifying areas for improvement and making necessary adjustments.

Whether positive or negative, feedback provides valuable insights into how others perceive you, which is especially important as you pursue your dreams and goals. Ignoring or rejecting feedback can cause you to miss out on vital opportunities for growth and improvement.

Rejecting feedback can also limit your ability to connect with people in your life.

This one was so hard for me. …well, I loved the good feedback. But constructive feedback, heck no!

For years if I got any corrective feedback, I took it as “I’m an udder failure.” I was devastated, as if I had to get it right the first time. I thought it meant something was wrong with me.

But this mindset kept me stuck. I couldn’t grow in areas where I wasn’t willing to take feedback.

Sure-Fire Way to Succeed – Embrace Feedback

“Feedback is the breakfast of champions.” – Ken Blanchard.

Be open to feedback from others, whether it’s positive or constructive criticism. Use feedback as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Embracing feedback is an essential step toward personal and professional growth.

Here are some reasons why it’s essential to embrace feedback:

1. Identifying Blind Spots

Feedback helps you identify areas that need improvement or growth opportunities. It provides an objective view of your strengths, limitations, and growth areas.

The letters from the apostle Paul weren’t just teaching; they were feedback revealing blind spots. He gave each of the churches he wrote to the good, the bad and the ugly of what they were doing. It helped them grow their relationship with God and reach people more effectively.

2. Broadens Perspective

Feedback from others helps you gain a broader perspective, leading to improved decision-making and better problem-solving.

You open yourself up to constructive criticism that can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses. You can use this information to refine yourself, improve your performance, and ultimately help you fulfill your dreams.

3. Builds Self-Awareness

Taking feedback to heart will increase self-awareness, which, in turn, boosts understanding of self and others, allowing for more informed decisions needed for improvement, decisions or future directions.

“Make feedback normal. Not a performance review.” – Ed Batista

4. Increases Accountability

Feedback provides a sense of accountability, knowing that others are observing your work and behavior, and their opinions will help improve or sustain your performance.

Jay Baer wrote a book called Hug Your Haters. He shows how negative feedback from others can help you grow your business and create loyal followers.

Feedback can come from anywhere. Use it to your advantage.

5. Creates a Culture of Growth

Embracing feedback can aid in creating a culture of open communication, support, and self-improvement among co-workers, teams, and personal relationships.

“There is no failure. Only feedback.” – Robert Allen

Remember, feedback provides growth opportunities, so embracing it and accepting criticism with a positive outlook and a growth mindset is essential.

Actively listen to feedback and consider the perspective offered; take the valuable points to heart and use them as a tool for growth. It can provide insights for leadership, create self-awareness, boost accountability, and ultimately lead to personal and professional development.
